Computer Shopper Names OpenOffice.org
"The Best Tech in 2007 - Software"

Computer Shopper named OpenOffice.org 2.2.1 the BEST OFFICE SUITE of 2007. Since then the updates have made OpenOffice.org even better!

We know, we know: What about Office 2007? There are scattered improvements throughout the latest version of Microsoft's venerable productivity package, but they're too few to count. Plus, that ribbon interface continues to trip us up. Meanwhile, the open-source community continues to rally around OpenOffice.org, the expansive free alternative that releases new features, updates, and bug fixes regularly. OpenOffice.org can't do everything the big boys can, but it can do a lot, and most ordinary users won't need much more than the robustly featured word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, and database programs it offers. And did we mention it doesn't cost a cent? Read the Review Here

What You Get

FAQ

For over 15 years a software suite called StarOffice was in development and used by thousands of satisfied users. Now that same software is being improved even more and being offered under the name OpenOffice.org.

WARNING! We have noticed that there are websites charging $47 to download OpenOffice.org. DO NOT pay someone for the privilege to download! Get it on CD instead, with all of the extras listed above.

StarOffice is a commercial product produced by Sun Microsystems using the same underlying software as OpenOffice.org 1.0.

What's so special about open-source software?
Open-source means that the the code behind the computer program is available for all to see. In the words of the Open- Source Initiative: “When programmers can read, redistribute, and modify the source code for a piece of software, the software evolves. People improve it, people adapt it, people fix bugs. And this can happen at a speed that, if one is used to the slow pace of conventional software development, seems astonishing.”

Is OpenOffice.org 2.x 100% Microsoft Office® file compatible?
As Microsoft rarely publish their file specifications, no-one can answer that question. However, there are plenty of users who regularly edit and exchange documents, spreadsheets, etc. with Microsoft Office® users without any problems. Indeed, some users claim they've seen bigger compatibility problems moving between versions of Microsoft's own products.

NOTE: The only Microsoft file format we have not been able to open so far is Publisher. All the others that we have worked with open properly.

Who We Are

OpenOfficeUSA.com is a subsidiary of Website Managers, LLC, who has been developing, hosting and maintaining websites and web servers since 1998. When we learned about OpenOffice.org and started using the software, we knew that more people could use the power and benefits of the package. So we became Community Distributors for OpenOffice.org to help distribute the software suite to those who either do not want to download such large file (70+ Mb), or simply want it on CD-ROM for installation, backup and portability to use on multiple computers.
